Fat Loss Programs – Do They Work?

Friday, August 27th, 2010

If you are struggling to get rid of weight, then maybe you should check out some fat loss programs. There are several effective programs out there that will set out exactly what you need to eat in order to get trim and fit. This article will give you a quick introduction to a few of them and tell you if you really need them.

There are all kinds of fat loss programs out on the market. When you want to lose weight, it’s almost impossible to sift through all of them. You want to make sure that you get something that is safe but also effective – especially since you will probably be spending some money in order to follow the plan.

The first plan that a lot of people look into is the Atkins Diet. It gained a lot of popularity several years ago. This diet is all about eating food that is high in protein. It also involves cutting out a lot of carbs. A lot of people like this diet because the guidelines don’t really do anything to restrict your intake of fat. Carbs are pretty easy to avoid – you just need to eat a lot of vegetables. Since you don’t need to worry about fat intake, you can also feel free to eat red meat as well. There are a few problems with this diet, however. You are encouraged to limit your intake of fruit, which can really have an impact on your energy levels if you depend on sucrose from fruits for a lot of your energy. You may also find that you are lacking fiber while you are following the Atkins Diet.

There is another diet called Choose to Lose which was developed by a certain Dr. Goor. This diet is all about cutting out fat from your diet. You are given a certain amount of fat that you can intake each day. Once you have eaten your allotted amount, you can have no more. This is a bit like another popular diet called ‘Weight Watchers’. This diet allows and encourages you to eat fruits and vegetables. Therefore, it may be a good choice for you if you want to steer clear of Atkins.

After you follow some fat loss programs for a while, you may decide that they really just aren’t for you. Luckily, there is an alternative. You can simply create your own healthy diet plan. You just need to start thinking hard about what you are eating. You can try to think of foods to eat that are low in fat and high in nutritional value. These are foods like lean meat and poultry. Try taking bacon out of your diet and adding in turkey bacon. Or you could try switching over to turkey meat for you burgers. It tastes almost exactly the same but has less than half of the fat and more nutritional value than red meat.

There is no reason why you can’t start your own fat loss program right now – start today. It just takes some careful planning and a lot of motivation. If you start eating healthier today, you could be a ‘new you’ in a matter of months!

The Difficulty of Being an Obese Teenager

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

An obese teenager can feel like high school is some sort of punishment. The teenage years are difficult enough with puberty, acne, dating and peer pressure. But add being an obese teenager into the mix and it can make the teen years pretty miserable.

High school is hard. First of all, there’s the coursework to worry about. High school is usually a huge switch from grade school and middle school. Everything is more difficult, and the homework amount can be enormous. But if you’re an obese teenager, that’s probably not the thing you hate most about high school.

High school and the teen years are the years when kids are turning into adults. And these years don’t bring out the best in everyone. There are always those kids who enjoy bullying other kids. There’s name calling and sometimes it escalates to physical violence.

The targets of these bullying kids are often those who are perceived to be easy targets and weak. Unfortunately, obese kids are often chosen as someone who can be picked on.

When a teenager is constantly picked on, that can make going to school each day feel like a certain type of torture. It can ruin a kid’s motivation to do well in school and make good grades. When you’re scared or embarrassed constantly by bullies, worrying about a test or getting an A seems far less important by comparison.

Aside from the very obvious humiliation that can come from being picked on, called names and bullied, being an obese teenager can be painful in more subtle ways, too.

The high school years are usually when the tradition of school dances starts, like the homecoming dance and proms. An obese teenager might miss out on these fun activities. While not every overweight teen sits at home, some might be embarrassed to ask someone to go to these dances.

Being overweight or obese, because of the bullying or the disapproval that might be obvious from some classmates, can cause low self-esteem. This is why some overweight kids avoid social activities that other kids enjoy.

A heavy teen who wants to go might not get asked because others perceive them as not being good enough because of their weight. Some might be embarrassed at the idea of others knowing that they asked a fat person on a date.

High school is usually when it’s required for kids to change into uniforms for PE class. This requires kids to change their clothes in front of their classmates, something than obese kids might feel very uncomfortable doing.

Sadly, this can cause or escalate bullying. And when a kid who might have self-esteem issues already is taunted and teased about their size while they’re undressed, it can only make any lack of self-confidence and self-esteem even worse.

Fortunately, the teen years are an ideal time to find a good eating plan and lose weight. It’s much easier for an obese teenager to lose weight and get in shape than it is for an older person to do so.

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

It is not amazing how many people want to lose weight. Considering how there are more overweight and obese people in the world now than ever before it should come as no shock. What is surprising is how many people want to just diet to lose weight.

Seems that exercise is, for many, as off the menu as fried chicken in their weight loss plans. They are willing to deprive themselves of various foods in a diet, but aren’t willing to get out and exercise. Some say exercise is not for them, that they have tried it and can’t do it, or just plain don’t want to.

But that’s a mistake. Exercise is a powerful step to take towards a leaner, slimmer, more healthy you. And it doesn’t have to be as taxing as you might think. If you don’t want to pound the streets in howling wind and rain just to reap the exercise benefits, then here are some other ideas.

Walking. Not quite so alternative but many people don’t consider it as a weight loss technique. Just walking 30 minutes a day can burn considerable amounts of calories.

The Wii. The Wii has many exercise games and activities, from the famous ‘Wii fit’ to a vigorous boxing game in the Wii Sports package. The Wii is actually a powerful weight loss tool.

Home exercise. For many, the problem with exercise is that you get seen. So instead, just try something simple like climbing your stairs 10 times in a row to get your heart beating and your metabolism raised.

Gardening. Gardening can get pretty vigorous, digging, weeding, chopping etc. So if you want a hobby that will lose you weight with low impact, then try gardening on for size.

Shop! Yes, amazing as it sounds, shopping can help you lose weight. By walking around all the different shops you will soon be dropping of the pounds before you know it. There, now you have an excuse to go shopping!
